05/29/12Pair of 13th Place Finishes on the Weekend for Budzo Racing
On Friday night, we were back at our hometown track of Luxemburg Speedway yet again, looking to come home with a better finish than what we posted the past two weeks.
I started on the outside pole for the heat race, and was squeezed up against the wall on the start, forcing me to back off the throttle and tuck behind the polesitter. I took control of the 4th position, but eventually fell back another spot to finish in 5th.
Because of the heat race finish, I had to start 13th on the grid for the feature. I quickly made my way up to 11th, but after a caution flag flew I was stuck on the outside for the restart. I lost a position tucking back in line on the bottom groove, and was passed by Jeremy Cota late in the race to finish in 13th.
On Sunday, we went out to Seymour Speedway for the first round of their Summer Holiday Classic specials. It was a draw/redraw event, and lucky for me I drew the outside pole for my heat race. Track conditions were less than ideal, with heavy ruts formed in the turns.
I took off from my front row starting spot to the early lead. After bouncing through the corners, I let the lead slip away to Kurt Moeller and settled into the 2nd spot. A caution flag flew, and on the restart I was hit from behind and eventually tagged in the left rear. Luckily, I only sustained body damage, and was able to continue in the race, finishing 3rd.
I would start 9th on the grid for the feature, and early on the car felt pretty good as it has in features thus far. However, mid-race it started to tighten up on entry and I couldn’t get any traction through the middle of the corners yet again. Eventually I fell back in the pack a little, coming home with another 13th place finish for the weekend.
We’re looking to make a change in our shock program this week, hoping to fix our woes during the features. Our plan is to run Friday at Luxemburg Speedway, with a possible stop at Thunderhill Raceway on Saturday night.
