Only 1 night of racing again for us this past weekend, and that was at our home track of Luxemburg Speedway. I started 3rd on the grid for my heat race, and got off to a rocky start on the backstretch of lap 1. My right front tire got hooked on Brandon Long’s left rear tire, which got me off the gas. Eric Arneson then got into my back bumper and I was sent flying through the infield. I rejoined the field in 9th and quickly got past Russel Franks and Troy Selner to get back into 7th.
A caution flew just after I had passed Chris Christensen for 6th. After the restart, I worked hard to get by him again, and after I did I was clobbered in the back bumper again. I was able to hang on, and end up finishing in 6th place.
That finish would set me up with a 3rd place starting spot in the semi-feature, where the top 3 would advance. Josh Long set the pace early on, with Dennis Miesler in 2nd and myself in 3rd. A restart bunched up the field, and I took off on the outside of Miesler to snatch the 2nd spot. Another caution flag flew, and I was pressured by Chad Kaminski for the 2nd spot on the final laps, but hung on to finish 2nd.
We had little time to prepare for the feature, as we were the 1st division to hit the track. I started in 20th, and luckily dodged the only accident of the feature in the opening laps of the race. We could have benefited from more time to make changes to our car between races, as I was unable to find any sidebite late in the race. I would finish the feature in 19th.
With Luxemburg Speedway off next Friday night, along with my dad being on vacation for the next 2 weeks, we may not hit the track again until July 29th at the earliest. That may change as we get closer to the weekend, but that is the plan as of now.
07/10/11 - 14th at Luxemburg Speedway
Only 1 night of racing for us on the weekend. After working hard on the car the week prior, we were ready to race on Friday night at Luxemburg Speedway. A total of 34 cars showed up in the sportmod division, and I was in the 4th (and final) heat race, starting on the outside of the front row. I took off on the outside, beating polesitter Jason Kostichka into turn 1 and grabbed the early lead. I led for about 4 laps, when Dennis Miesler took the inside line and took over the lead. I settled in behind Miesler, finishing a close 2nd.
The finish would set me up with a 3rd place starting spot in the feature. I did my best to stay out of trouble and not burn my tires off the corners on a very slick racing surface. Midway through the race I was running in the 9th position, and I could feel the car starting to fade. I opted to ride out the end of the race on the top of the track, coming home with a 14th place finish. We could have used more rear weight for the feature, but it was a guessing game for us as this was the 1st time we’ve raced on a dryslick surface at Luxemburg this year.
I decided to take the night off on Saturday night, and as of right now it appears I’ll be doing the same next weekend as well. Look for us at Luxemburg Speedway on Friday night, with a possibility of racing Seymour Speedway on Sunday. Check out the in-car videos from Friday night below, we tried out a new angle for the 1st time.
