06/03/13Misfortune Strikes Budzo Racing at Luxemburg Speedway
The weatherman forecasted gloom and doom weather for the entire week, but only 1 night of showers early in the week allowed Luxemburg Speedway to get their second night of racing in.
Finishing in 4th place on opening night would put me 7th on the grid for the heat race. I ran up to 6th place, but opened the door on the inside for Ryan LeMieux to take the spot away. I would finish where I started the race, putting me in the 7th row on the grid for the feature.
Starting 14th in the feature, I looked to make some early moves to get into the top 10. I tried to get inside of Jacob Zellner a couple of times, but bounced my RF tire and wheel off his LR. A caution flag flew, and coming into turn 1 on the restart the entire inside line was bottled up, setting up a chain reaction which led to me getting spun around. I suffered some door damage along with a flat tire on the LR, sending me down pit lane.
I rejoined the field in time for the restart, and passed a few cars before another caution flew. I decided to make another trip down pit lane to adjust tire pressure on the spare tire mounted on the car. After rejoining the field yet again, I made my way back through the pack of cars, but got too close to the tractor tire in turn 4, clipping it with my LF tire.
The impact did not break anything on the car, but bent the spindle, upper-A frame and lower balljoint on the LF severely. I still managed to finish the race badly toed out in 14th place.
Saturday’s action at Thunderhill Raceway was cancelled due to rain, so Friday night’s racing was the only night for us on the track. We’ll look to head back to both tracks this coming weekend.
