A doubleheader weekend was in store for the team once again this past weekend, with trips to Luxemburg Speedway on Friday night and Thunderhill Raceway on Saturday night.

For Friday night’s heat race, I started on the outside of the second row. I made a pass on the outside to take the 3rd position, and then went to the bottom groove of the racetrack to take over the lead from Tailar Ness about 4 laps into the race. I would go on to win the heat race without a challenge for the position.

The win in the heat race set me up with the same starting spot for the feature.  I was able to take the 3rd spot in the early going, but decided to try my luck on the low groove when the high groove proved to be faster. After a couple of restarts, I found myself solidly in the 5th position, which is where I would end up finishing the night.

On Saturday at Thunderhill, I started 4th in the heat race and was shuffled back to 5th in the early going. Once I found my way to the bottom of the track, I got back up to the 3rd position and battled Dennis Miesler for 2nd. With no advantage to finishing any higher, I played it safe and finished in the 3rd spot.

My point average set me up 8th on the starting grid for the night’s feature. A melee ensued on the 2nd lap of the race, ending the night for 4 of the 13 competitors. I caught a part of the wreck, but was able to continue the race. A couple of cautions flew during the race, and with a few laps to go I found myself all the way up to 3rd. However, during the final caution my right rear tire went flat due to the early wreck, which put me on pit lane and out of contention. I was officially scored in the 9th position after I returned to the track 1 lap down.

The damage proved to be severe, as we found bent and broken tail tubing, bent panhard bar, bent trailing arm bolt and a bent rearend to go along with the beadlock and right rear tire being destroyed. A long week of fixing and we’ll be back out this weekend to try our luck once again.
