Coming off a solid 2nd place finish last Sunday night at Thunderhill Raceway, we were ready to shake our string of rotten luck on Friday night at Luxemburg Speedway.
In the heat race, I started 3rd and took the early lead, but the lead was quickly wiped out on two occasions by caution flags. On the final restart, Tracy Wassenberg slipped by on the inside as the middle of the corners started to dry out. I stayed up in the higher groove, and slipped back to a 3rd place finish.
Our heat race finish set us up with a 5th place starting position on the grid for the night’s feature. At the drop of the green, I shot up alongside Sawyer Haese for 2nd place, and looked to the outside of early leader Vince Engebregtsen on lap 2. We battled side by side for 5 laps before a caution for debris re-racked the field.
Taking command on the restart, I ran along the infield tires much like my 1st career feature win at Luxemburg 2 years ago. Points leader Todd Wiese tried everything to close the gap, but I pulled away in the final laps to pick up the victory.
On Sunday night, we made the trek up to Thunderhill to try to add to our points lead. I finished 6th out of 6 on a hammer-down track in the heat race, which only would cost us 1 starting spot in the night’s feature.
Starting 11th in the feature, we had about 10 laps of great side by side racing with a group of 8 cars. Eventually I would find my way through the pack and looked to track down the top 5 cars. Unfortunately the race went green to checkers, but I was able to creep into 5th with 2 laps remaining. Even though I finished 5th, I added 2 points to my lead to push it up to a 10 point advantage over Randy LeMieux, Jr. and Tom Stark.
It was a great weekend of racing, and we’re looking forward to the slew of mid-season specials coming our way in the near future. This weekend our plan is to run Luxemburg Speedway on Friday night, then head to Chilton Speedway on Saturday night and cap it off with Thunderhill Raceway on Sunday night.
