With the Kewaunee County Fair invading Luxemburg this past weekend, our only race on the schedule would be at Thunderhill Raceway. Coming off a 6th place finish, we looked to fight back in the points battle with Ryan LeMieux and Jarred VanLaanen.
A total of 15 sportmods checked in for the night, putting me in the 5th starting spot in the heat race. After moving up to 4th place in the early going, I looked for an opportunity to get by Bernie Reinhardt for 3rd. I tried the low line with a few laps to go, but settled for a 4th place finish to make the feature invert.
Starting 7th on the grid for the night’s feature, I ran behind last week’s feature winner Scott Boulanger for the first few laps before a caution flag flew. On the restart, I split between Boulanger and Jeff Lautenbach to battle for the 5th position. Lautenbach spun in turn 2, collecting a group of cars including myself.
Luckily, the damage I sustained was mostly cosmetic and I was able to continue without making a trip down pit lane. I would restart 5th after the caution, and followed behind VanLaanen and Randy LeMieux for multiple laps. I could see Reinhardt hit an infield tire ahead of us, and I moved up to the outside line to swing around both Reinhardt and VanLaanen into 3rd place. From there, we ran the high groove around the track until the checkers flew.
Ryan LeMieux suffered mechanical issues in his heat race, which forced him to borrow Jason Maccoux’s car for the feature. He wound up finishing in 10th place, putting us back into the points lead by a margin of 2.
This week we’ll be back in action at Luxemburg Speedway on Friday night and Thunderhill Raceway on Saturday night.
