Only one night of racing was on the docket for the team this past weekend, and once again it proved to be a very exciting night as we ended up in victory lane for the third time thus far in the 2013 season.
With Oshkosh being off due to Lifefest, Luxemburg Speedway picked up a quite a few more IMCA northern sportmods than previous nights this year. We would run 4 heat races, with the top 4 cars in each race transferring to the feature.
I would start 5th in my heat race, and without much hesitation sought my way toward the front on the bottom groove. I would get up to 2nd and start to challenge Tyler Wilson for the lead, but a slight push would allow Wilson to pull away for the victory. My 2nd place finish was more than enough to claim my invert spot for the night’s feature event.
Starting 9th in the feature, the inside row of cars shot out to the quick advantage, with polesitter Hunter Parsons taking the early lead. With only 2 laps in the books, I was already up challenging for the 3rd spot, and eventually worked past Greg Potts and Dennis Miesler to grab 2nd behind Parsons. It would only take me one more lap to get under Parsons to overtake the lead, and from there it was smooth sailing to the checkers.
I would end up winning by about a half a lap over Potts, capturing my 2nd feature win of the season at Luxemburg and 3rd feature win overall.
This coming week we will be at Seymour Speedway on Wednesday night, as the sportmod division is going to tag along with the new Badger Stock Car Tour. Extra money is on the line during the 3-day swing of the tour for the sportmods, so we may end up running 2 or even 3 nights in a row. We will keep our fans current on our plans on our Facebook page.
