08/06/127th Place Finish at Luxemburg Speedway Vaults Budzo Racing Back into Top-10 Points Chase
It’s been awhile between races for our team, as we hadn’t hit the clay since July 13th at Luxemburg Speedway. We got back into action this past Friday night at Luxemburg, and showed no signs of the long layoff affecting our performance on the track.
I would start on the outside of Nick Mahlik on the front row for the heat race. Mahlik got the jump early, as I looked for a way around on the outside line. I had to check up coming out of turn 4 as he got a little loose and darted up the track a bit. That would allow Brian Bruechert to get by on the inside of me to take the 2nd spot, and I rode out the rest of the race to finish in 3rd.
The track remained very tacky throughout the evening, and the surface made for some great racing when the features rolled out. I started 4th on the grid, and in the early stages of the race I was battling Brandon Long for the 4th position. I went to the outside to challenge Long, and he got loose off of turn 4, spinning into the infield and bringing out a caution.
On the restart, I looked to the inside of Greg Potts into turn 1, but an incident just ahead sent cars scattering throughout the field. I was able to avoid the wreck, and advanced up the 2nd spot after Potts had go down pit lane with heavy body damage. The next restart would be the final one, as I fell back within the first few laps to 5th and later 7th.
The top 6 put on a great show for the fans, as they raced side by side all the way to the checkered flag. I caught back up to Eric Mahlik and Jeremy Cota in the waning laps, but came home with a solid 7th place feature finish in the end. The finish puts us back into the top-10 in the points standings with 4 points nights remaining.
We’re currently undecided on racing at Shawano Speedway this coming Tuesday night, but of course our Friday night plans will put us at Luxemburg Speedway.
