13th Place Finish at Thunderhill Raceway

Our weekend looked to be off to a great start on Friday night, as I took to my hometown track of Luxemburg Speedway seeking my 3rd feature appearance of the season. I took off from my 2nd row starting spot in the heat race, shooting to the outside of early leader Jason Kostichka to fight for the top spot. A caution flag flew, setting me up on the inside of Jessi Ness. Ness took the bottom groove on the restart, while I shot back up to the top of the surface. I took a shot at the lead once again, but got up too high coming into turn 1, sending my car into the marbles and off the track.

With a DNF in the heat, I had to start 6th in the semi-feature, where only the top 3 would advance to the feature. I got off to a quick start once again, using the high line to my advantage. I was up to the back bumper of Jason Cornelius for the 3rd spot, when he got loose off of turn 4, forcing me to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting him. As a result, I got shuffled to the back of the field and lost all of my momentum. I made a strong run back on the top of the track, getting by Rob Krull for 4th with 1 lap to go. It turn out to be too little, too late as Brad Theys, Dennis Miesler and Troy Jerovetz secured the transfer positions at the checkers.

On Saturday night, I made the trip up to Sturgeon Bay’s Thunderhill Raceway. This would be the second night without my dad in the pits to help with the car, so I elected to start at the rear of my heat race to avoid unnecessarily damaging my car. All cars would transfer to the feature, and I was set up with the last starting spot on the grid (19th). I would slowly work my way past cars on the top groove of the track, climbing my way close to the top 10. On the final restart, Todd Wiese’s machine jumped out of gear coming to the green, and I narrowly avoided wrecking his car, along with my own. We would both shake off the mishap, with Wiese finishing 12th while I made a last corner pass to secure a 13th place finish.

Although it wasn’t quite the results we would have liked, it’s another week of minimal maintenance for us. We are undecided about running 141 Speedway’s special, the Clash at the Creek III, this coming Wednesday night. It would be our 1st night at the track this season if we choose to do so. For now, it will be the weekly routine of Luxemburg Speedway on Friday night, and Thunderhill Raceway on Saturday night. As always, enjoy the videos from the weekend of racing action!
