10th at Thunderhill, 16th at Seymour

With our weekly home track Luxemburg Speedway rained out this past weekend, we took another trip up to Thunderhill Raceway on Saturday night. The track conditions for the heat race was something I haven’t had much success driving on, and I ended up pulling off the track instead of pushing the issue and wrecking the car.

With all the cars transferring to the feature, I started 18th on the grid. After a yellow flew, chaos ensued on the restart, as Kelsy Hayes, Dennis Miesler, Tyler Hackett and Keith Peterson were tangled up in turn 1. I was able to stop in time, and bounced my RF tire off the bumper of Peterson to avoid any damage. On the restart, I got caught up in the slime on top, and fell back a few positions. In the end, I learned quite a bit about racing on a real heavy track with this car, and still came away with a 10th place finish on the night.

On Sunday, we made our first trip of the season up to Seymour Speedway. I would start 8th in the heat race and again learned quite a bit on a “hammer-down” type track, finishing in 9th place. All cars would end up transferring to the feature due to 2 scratches in our division.

Starting 23rd on the grid for the feature, we threw a dry-slick setup into the car which we would regret quickly. The car had enough speed down the straights, but entering the corner was a big issue. I could not get the rearend to slide out the way I wanted too, and the ruts in the track further complicated that issue. I managed to avoid the big wreck in turns 3&4 early in the race, and battled Kevin Bethke for 15th at the end of the race. I was nipped at the line, officially finishing in 16th.

With the 10th place finish at Thunderhill, I now sit in 6th place in points in the sportmod division. Our plans for next week will include racing Friday night at Luxemburg Speedway and then Saturday night at Thunderhill Raceway. If either of those nights would get rained out, we could be back at Seymour Speedway for the 2nd straight week.

Also, our thoughts and prayers go out to Kelsy Hayes and the 09 crew. Kelsy was injured in the feature on Sunday night at Seymour. Word from the pits was her neck & back were giving her a lot of trouble. Hope to hear soon on her condition, and to see her back on the track in the near future.
